The Cathedral

Worcester Cathedral is one of the finest. Begun in 1084 and largely completed some 300 years later, it contains King Johns tomb and medieval cloisters.

The Commandery
Near the Cathedral is the half-timbered, medieval Commandery, in its time a hospice, country house and glove-makers workshop. Dating back to the 1500s it was the headquarters of Charles11 prior to the Battle of Worcester.It is now home to various exhibitions including Civil War and The Commandery Chronicle. The Guildhall
With its Queen Anne style of architecture, built between 1721 and 1722, the Guildhall is regarded as one of the finest civic buildings of its period . The Assembly Room is one of the most beautifully decorated Italianate rooms in the country. 01905 723 471

City Museum & Art Gallery
The Museum in Foregate Street, built in 1721-22 and standing next to the 19thC Shire Hall, holds many Art and Craft exhibitions with lively events and activities. It also houses the Worcester Industry Gallery and Worcester Regimental displays. Cafe and gift shop. 01905 253 71
Museum of Local Life
This museum in Friar Street is a beautifully preserved, 16thC, half-timbered building in one of Worcesters best preserved medieval streets. Displays include a Victorian kitchen, Edwardian schoolroom and Worcester at War,. Free admission. 01905 722 349
The Greyfriars
Built in 1480 Greyfriars is a fine timber-framed house with panelled rooms containing a large variety of textiles and furnishings. It is run by the National Trust and has a delightfully peaceful walled garden. National Trust. 01905 235 71
The Elgar Birthplace Museum
Crown East Lane, Lower Broadheath, nr Worcester ( three miles from city, off A44 Worcester /Leominster road )
The Museum gives the visitor a fascinating insight into the life and music, family and friends of the composer Sir Edward Elgar. In his country cottage and with the new Elgar Centre are to be found photographs, letters, personal possessions, manuscripts, concert programmes and many other treasures. 01905 333 224
The Royal Worcester Visitor Centre
The Victorian buildings of the Centre are to be found in Severn Street and ny factory shops, restaurant, museum, films and craft area. 01905 23221

The Royal Worcester Porcelein Manufactory was established by Dr John Wall and 14 business partners in 1751. The business expanded rapidly and show 250 years of porcelein production. There are guided factory tours, maby the 1760s had become famous for high quality tea and dessert wares. In 1789 the first Royal Warrant was awarded by King George 111.
